Married in the ancient palace of Istana Balai Besar, built in the 1840s as the sultan of Kelantan’s official residence, the couple’s wedding was an intimate affair with 300 guests.

The couple’s marriage was consecrated by the chief judge of the Kelantan Sharia court, Datuk Daud Mohamad.

Spectacular pictures of the reception posted on social media show the lavish festivities.

The crown prince has become the latest Malaysian royal to marry a non-Malays citizen.

In November last year the crown prince Tengku Muhammad Faiz Petra’s brother, Sultan Muhammad, 49, made headlines when he married former Miss Moscow and glamour model, Oksana Voevodina, 25, who allegedly had sex on reality TV.

Sultan Muhammad abdicated his seat on the throne three months ago, shortly after reports of the marriage emerged – it is custom for Malaysia’s nine hereditary state rulers take turns as king for five-year terms.

Similarly in 2017 Dennis Muhammad Abdullah – a former semi-professional footballer from Lisse, in the Netherlands joined the Malaysian royal family after marrying Princess Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim: the only daughter of the Sultan of Johor.

It is Malaysian tradition for royals to be of Islamic faith.

Previous brides and grooms or royals including Russian glamour model Oksana Voevodina, now known by her Muslim name Rihana, and Dennis Muhammad Abdullah, the Dutch footballer formally known as Dennis Verbaas, converted to the faith prior to their marriage.

However, no official information regarding whether Louise Johansson will become a Muslim has been released.

The wedding between the Crown Prince and Louise Johansson was an elegant affair on Friday with the bride wearing a full-length pale yellow dress with high neck, long sleeves and lace covers.

The dress was covered by intricate embroidery in what appeared to be gold thread with the bride wearing a long veil and glistening tiara to match.

The Crown Prince Tengku Muhammad Faiz Petra wore traditional Malaysian festive clothing for the ceremony.

Guests of the ceremony included Sweden’s ambassador Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt, and Louise Johansson’s family who flew in from Sweden.

Following the ceremony, a wedding dinner was held in the palace with several guests taking to Instagram to share pictures of the regal table.

A huge flower arch was assembled at the end of the table in the same yellow and white flowers as the first lady’s bridal bouquet.
