Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon and Other Women Teching Charge
Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon –
The tenth episode of The Evening Standard’s brand new podcast, Women Tech Charge, is available to download today.
Hosted by Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon, the CEO of stemettes.org, Women Tech Charge is a series of candid, inspiring and often funny conversations with inventors and entrepreneurs, created to shine a light on the incredible women revolutionising our lives through technology.
After interesting discussions with ‘Beth’, a senior leader at GCHQ, Rikke Rosenlund of BorrowMyDoggy, Louise Broni-Mensah, founder and CEO of Shoobs.com, next in the chair is Venetia Archer, founder and CEO of Ruuby.
Cast your mind back to 2013 when start-ups like Deliveroo and Uber were only just coming to the fore, allowing you to order anything on-demand at the touch of a button. For Venetia Archer, the big question was, when is someone going to do this for the beauty industry?
“I’d always had this idea, and was always telling my friends, someone’s got to do this app for on-demand beauty services, we’ve got Uber, we’ve got Deliveroo, there’s something there,” she says.
Luckily for us, Archer decided to take the plunge and do it herself, launching on-demand beauty app Ruuby. With over 600 professional beauty providers, you can use the app to call in a manicure, a pedicure, or a blow dry anywhere in London and at any time.
To hear about what it’s like launching a beauty start-up, from issues including fundraising to navigating acquisitions, and being part of the Founders Factory accelerator programme, tune in to this week’s episode of Women Tech Charge.
