Meghan Markle can win the public by copying Diana – Diana secretary
Meghan Markle is testing the public’s patience but can win them back by copying Diana, according to Princess Di’s ex-private secretary.
The Duchess of Sussex has recently been criticised for her so-called “demanding” persona and is now being told she needs to act like the late royal by her former right-hand man.
Patrick Jephson, who used to be Princess Diana’s chief of staff, has given Meghan a stern warning that “something needs to change in the way Team Sussex engages with the taxpaying public.”
‘NIGHTMARE’ WIMBLEDON VISIT
An official organising Meghan’s visit admitted it had been difficult, saying to The Times: “It was a nightmare, she was a nightmare.”
An All England Club source explained that Meghan had wanted to watch the tennis “incognito, but there were problems.”
They said: “They couldn’t invite her into the Royal Box because she was wearing jeans but that didn’t really matter because all she wanted to do was come and watch Serena.”
And tennis fan Hasan Hasanov, 58, was warned off as he took a picture from the row in front of Meghan’s VIP seat.
But the oil and gas safety engineer was just taking a selfie on his iPhone with the players in the background and was baffled to be asked by a minder: “Please give them privacy.”
Jephson wrote in the Daily Mail: “Top tip for Sussex courtiers: when my former boss Princess Diana went to Wimbledon privately, she was aware that she was actually attending a prolonged photo shoot.
“Diana generally never took any staff with her.
“Compare that with the images we’ve seen of the Duchess of Sussex with two friends, huddled like survivors in a life-raft, alone on a sea of empty green seats in what has been described as an ‘exclusion zone’.
“Right now it is the Royal advisers to Harry and Meghan who must up their game — or else hand in their fancy racquets on their way out the door.”
