Wayne Rooney was arrested by US airport police on public intoxication and swearing charges
Wayne Rooney has been arrested for public intoxication and swearing charges in Washington D.C.
The former Manchester United footballer who currently lives in the US was arrested on December 16, 2018 in Loudoun County, Virginia, home to Washington Dulles airport.

Rooney was bailed without a fee and paid a $25 fine (£19.65) on Jan. 4, which would only take him 4min 43sec to earn. He was also ordered to pay costs of $91 (£71.50).
Rooney was arrested by the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority, although it is unclear if he was held at the airport or elsewhere in the vicinity.
The airport is near to DC United’s stadium, who Rooney currently plays for.
A spokesman for Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said: ‘He was booked into the Loudoun County Adult Detention Centre on December 16 2018, on a charge of public intoxication stemming from an arrest by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police.
‘He was later released on a personal recognisance bond.’
Rooney is currently 13 months into a drink-driving ban and has completed 100 hours of community service which was part of his punishment.
Rooney posted a photo of himself at an event in Saudi Arabia in the days prior to the arrest.
Rooney, the former England and Manchester United captain, was arrested in September 2017 for driving under the influence in Wilmslow, Cheshire,
He pleaded guilty and received a two-year driving ban and paid a £170 fine.
Rooney also agreed to undergo a drink-driving rehabilitation that could reduce his driving ban.
Rooney last played for DC United on November 2, when his side were knocked out of the MLS Cup.
The former Manchester United and Everton striker missed a penalty during the 3-2 defeat following extra time.
